Phone Bones

Colette’s adorable mascots, Caperino and Peperone, are two black critters that obviously have a flair for bone-shaped phones. These sculptural speakers cost a lot more than dog food though, so you can look but you can’t fetch these babies.

Fluted Tunes

Though it doesn’t look the least bit birdy, this wireless speaker is called the Parrot and is made by Starck. At just over 2 feet tall, it works with the iPhone (iPod and iPod touch) and works via Bluetooth 2.0 with Smartphones, MP3 players, and your laptop. Just dock your iPhone on the top of the Parrot to begin listening to surround-sound music. And its wireless remote ain’t half bad either, making the $1500 price tag perhaps a bit easier to swallow.

Pot Sounds

A lot of the audio pieces we feature on this blog are works of art, and these speakers are pure porcelain perfection. Studio Lim’s Sound Pot is an interactive speaker, turned on when you touch the nob and move it to its side. You control the volume by rolling the speaker across a surface. Just don’t leave these sensitive speakers around at a kegger!

Rotary Rage

We’ve covered a decent range of vintage electronics getting “iPodicized” but this one is really old school. Designer Alan Bader takes the iPod touch screen for a spin with the RotariPhone. It’s basically an iPod dock and speaker system, with the cradle working as the iPod dock and the handset serving as the speaker system. Just don’t let your grandma try to make a call with this one…

Splash Bash

Bring this sweet pink speaker anywhere, like the bathroom or the sauna, and get ready to blast some waterproof tunes. Just strap in your iPod. The JVC speaker has a little remote control that comes with it, so you can switch tracks even when neck deep in a jacuzzi. And don’t worry, it comes in shades a little less Barbie…
It’s $79.99 at AudioCubes.

I Wood if I Could

The Vers 2X is simplicity at its best – compact and sleek with a hand-crafted wood body and no junk in the trunk (check out its bare bones back). This iPod dock is designed to fit in a small space, while making enough sound to fill up a big room. Its busy remote control lets you manipulate the heck out of your music without moving an inch. For wood connoiseurs, it comes in Cherry, Natural Walnut, Dark Walnut and Bamboo. The Natural Walnut has a beautiful retro feel to it.
I was surprised to find out that each speaker system is built by hand over the course of a week, ensuring that every model is unique. In a world where iPod docks are built in the same way IKEA furniture is, a one-of-a-kind speaker at less than $200 (with a dollar going to planting a new tree) is made to last.

Mega Mix Tape

There are so many awesome USB thingamajigs out there that sometimes I wish I had twice as many USB ports for my fan, turntable, and speakers. Good thing there’s this adorably retro Cassette Tape USB Hub to give my laptop accessories some extra juice. And for around $15, you can afford another USB toy to make full use of your new hub.
Just don’t try to shove it into your cassette player (if you still own one)…
Check it out here.
Pop Art

If your home is full of beige, this subwoofer isn’t for you. But if you’re a fan of Piet Mondrian’s color blocking, or the Rubik’s Cube, then you’re going to be pretty thrilled by this colorful technology. The ELAC MicroSub 2010 BT and the MicroSUB 2010 Art Edition use Bluetooth technology to stream music from your music player, and you can also connect directly with an RC jack. These subwoofers have four amplifiers and provide a 2.1 sound-system optimized for music reproduction. It’s the pop of color to complement your pop tunes.

Speaker Feature

I’ve seen a lot of fugly speakers in my time. Big, boxy speakers and amps stained with beer and scratched by cats. But these speakers are a work of art! Well, almost. Artcoustic has come up with a line of speakers that look like blinged out frames. They’re super flat and mounted on your walls (so they stay beer and cat free). Check out the Swarovski crystal border. They can come with iPod/iPod compatible docks, so you’re all set for some serious artistry.
