Piano Ride
Posted by admin in Art & Design, Har Har, Pop Cult-ure, Shopping, Vinyl, musick on September 16th, 2009
I’m barely coordinated enough to bend down and tie my shoelaces, so the idea of skateboarding has always been pretty terrifying. But I’ve always had great respect for those who have mastered the fine art of riding and jumping on a long thin board. Especially stylish boards. This piano-inspired skateboard from Solitary Arts has a 9-ply deck made from hardrock Canadian Maple. It’s fully dipped in white and the graphic is hand-screened. I wouldn’t dare take a spin on it, but I would definitely mount it on my walls.

Dear Diary

If only my diary from back in the day were so insightful. Whereas my tween ramblings are embarrassing to re-read, graphic designer Lee Crutchley’s set of thoughts, doodles, quotes and lyrics are entertaining for all the right reasons. “Quoteskine” is a compilation of Crutchley’s creativity and cheap pens and a Moleskine.

Loving these Simpsonized illustrations of hip hop icons. Moxy Creative took Tupac, Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, Kanye and others and made them that famous mellow yellow. They’re all pretty awesome, except maybe Fat Joe…

Everyone Wants to Be a DJ

Who hasn’t had the desire to work wonders on the turntables? Stefan Glerum makes these vinyl-related assumptions in some entertaining (and just a touch morbid) illustrations.

Colored Cassettes

Montreal man Dominic Prevost made some terrific tape-themed posters for Ministry of Sound London. Each image features a tortured cassette that is a stark contrast from our little silver digital music players. When’s the last time you heard music via a cassette?

Orient Express
Posted by admin in Art & Design, Pop Cult-ure, Vinyl, musick on August 1st, 2009
Last week, A.D.D featured this awesome shot by Alex Gertschen and Felix Meier. And then I stumbled upon an equally amazing illustration, with the same vinyl oriental flavor. Illustrator Yuko Shimizu brings music iconography and exotic ladies together, and it sounds good.
Record Store Whore

Every once in a while, us A.D.D‘ers round up vinyl record cover relics and reminisce about the days of vinyl. I love the simple yet clever designs on these covers; compared to today’s cleavage-filled CD cases, these beautiful images are practically works of art. Check out more great vinyl covers at Record Envelope.
Temp Tats

Artist Audrey Kawasaki is a big inspiration to needle-shy folk and tat-loving kiddies, thanks to her amazing Sharpie talents. I’ve been debating a certain tattoo for ages now, but the whole permanence thing kind of throws me off. Sure, Sharpies are permanent too, but only for 3 or 4 showers. If I ever got a temporary tattoo from Audrey, I’d certainly make those showers last…

Where the Wild Things Are
Posted by admin in Animals, Art & Design on April 18th, 2009
We like animals over here at A.D.D, as you may have noticed, and art. So this post is like a double-whammy. Not as cuddly as the real deal, but there’s less house-training involved when you enjoy these illustrations, photos and paintings.
ILLustrations

Finnish fashion illustrator Laura Laine has done a wonderful thing with the typical accessories editorial – she’s injected ethereal little ladies in pencil and pen. I’m loving the whimsical look of this fashion spread from Muse Magazine – do you?
