Whiz Bam Boom

These colorful Kotori headphones are all about the snap, crackle and pop. Just check out how loud they are. And the volume should be pretty strong too. In over 100 variations, you can achieve any color combo and degree of brightness.

Vroom Vroom Sounds

This isn’t your typical microphone – it’s got rims for starters. This one-of-a-kind mic was created for the annual Vauxhall UK Beatbox Championships. Do you think we’ll be seeing a trend in auto audio?

Pot Sounds

A lot of the audio pieces we feature on this blog are works of art, and these speakers are pure porcelain perfection. Studio Lim’s Sound Pot is an interactive speaker, turned on when you touch the nob and move it to its side.  You control the volume by rolling the speaker across a surface.  Just don’t leave these sensitive speakers around at a kegger!

Splash Bash

Bring this sweet pink speaker anywhere, like the bathroom or the sauna, and get ready to blast some waterproof tunes. Just strap in your iPod. The JVC speaker has a little remote control that comes with it, so you can switch tracks even when neck deep in a jacuzzi. And don’t worry, it comes in shades a little less Barbie…

It’s $79.99 at AudioCubes.

Robot Reciprocity

Whether I’m introducing friends to a new artist, sampling a track or getting a taste of an album, sharing music is caring about music. This little robot feels the same way. The Splitterbot is a keychain accessory that plugs into your mp3 player to share music between two sets of earphones. Simply twist off the little guy’s head and press play! For $7.99, you can definitely afford to share.

I Wood if I Could

The Vers 2X is simplicity at its best – compact and sleek with a hand-crafted wood body and no junk in the trunk (check out its bare bones back). This iPod dock is designed to fit in a small space, while making enough sound to fill up a big room. Its busy remote control lets you manipulate the heck out of your music without moving an inch. For wood connoiseurs, it comes in Cherry, Natural Walnut, Dark Walnut and Bamboo. The Natural Walnut has a beautiful retro feel to it.

I was surprised to find out that each speaker system is built by hand over the course of a week, ensuring that every model is unique. In a world where iPod docks are built in the same way IKEA furniture is, a one-of-a-kind speaker at less than $200 (with a dollar going to planting a new tree) is made to last.

Loud Bang For Your Buck

This is something that I can’t believe I’ve never come across before, and I want it.  Headphones with built-in speakers! The iHM5 may have a boring name, but the hybrid headphone-speaker concept is definitely pretty exciting. You can listen to music solo or turn it up loud in speaker mode when you want to share some beats. Its versatility comes from a magnetic proximity switch which starts up the power amplifier and boosts the music to room volume.

The headphones look pretty straightforward until you swivel the cups and hit the amplifier switch. They’re powered by 2 AAA batteries, so I wouldn’t presume that the sound will blow you away. But the usefulness would impress you more than the sound anyways…

Hot OTTO

J.J Abrams would be all over this device, because it’s all about re-arranging time (have you seen Lost/Star Trek?). OTTO is a new sound instrument used for beat-slicing, which allows you to create different rhythm sections by using one rhythmic audio sample, slicing it down into little pieces and then rearranging them in time. The video says it all, though it looks like it may be a complex instrument to master. The video feedback is the slickest component to the OTTO though – check out how fingers + lights = good music.
